Contacting spirit guides faster

  • Posted on September 27, 2011 at 4:14 pm
In the last 8 years I've learned a lot about psychic abilities. I try to contact my spirit guides and to open my third eye. I'm not good to guided meditation, I like to meditate in ''here and now'', to be in the present moment. Please tell me how much should I meditate to be able to contact my spirit guides faster? Many blessings.

Animal guides/totems resources

  • Posted on September 21, 2011 at 3:19 pm
Lately dem birds been talkin' to me, which sparks in me a few questions:

1. Is there a difference between animal guides and totems?

2. How do people approach learning about animal guides? Is it mostly intuitive, learned from books, based on a particular culture or taken from New Age everything soup? I guess this answer may differ among individuals.

And most pressing, for me,

3. What are some good books, websites, teachings and whatnot about animals as guides and symbols? The reason I ask is that people around here are really into animal guides and totems, but I'm very choosy about the books widely sold because I suspect they were written by pampered New Age pseudo-Jungian psychologists who never spent a night outdoors in their lives, leastways not without their Eddie Bauer/L.L Bean gear and DEET, and think it's fun to oversimplify and exploit the traditions of indigenous American cultures for their own profit, while in practice not giving a damn about realities for Native Americans today. Hey, why don't I tell you exactly how I feel? I could be wrong. ;) I admit I am ignorant on the subject but BY GOLLY I HAVE OPINIONS!

About which I will shut up, and hope instead to net some facts. <3

(I also admit that I wouldn't be too keen on spending a night outdoors without protection from mosquitoes, either. :3 speaking of net...)

Guides shared between friends

  • Posted on September 8, 2011 at 6:01 pm
It it at all common for guides and the like to transfer between people who know each other, or for them to be shared?

I'm curious because the guide of one of my closest friends has recently become mine, apparently. I've known this girl for over a decade now, and in that time plus all the trouble we've gotten into I've become passingly familiar with his presence, but I've never sought out guides of my own nor been contacted by any. He just kind of stepped up to the plate this last weekend.

It's not a subject I'm at all familiar with, but I don't think I've heard of this happening before. Mostly, I'm curious why I might be sharing one (not that I'm not used to sharing with my friend already, sigh) instead of winding up with a different one entirely. Isn't that, er, usually how these things go?

A chant to bring spirits

  • Posted on September 8, 2011 at 5:30 pm
I was walking in the local park and sat upon a bench and this came to mind.
So I tried it.

Here it goes:

Spirits, Spirits, Spirits,
of nature, plants and trees,
who hold only good will to me,
Please hear my plea,
hear my invite,
and come to me.

It was a spur of the moment thing
Did any thing happen?
Not sure.

But the main reason I am posting here is asking others if the intent is stated clearly and will bring only nice spirits to me.
Last time I called out to spirits, I wasn't clear on my intent and things got interesting in a rather not so nice fashion. So I am asking others to make sure and asking others to give it a try to see how it works out for them.

Tree Spirits

  • Posted on August 24, 2011 at 11:17 am
What rituals or ways would you guys recommend on how to get in contact with tree spirits?
Especially some one whose spiritual senses and energy sensing and channeling are very dull, so to speak?

Edit:

I know the obvious (or I am guessing) is go to the tree that houses the spirits and give offerings would be the standard procedure. That is the problem. I don't know what tress they came from, or where the trees are at. I have no idea how to locate them. If you are wondering how I know this, if I am lacking in the spiritual sense department, I just had some one help me deal with some hostile spirits and told me these tree spirits are around me. So would like to figure out how to establish a connection.

Damn spirits

  • Posted on August 14, 2011 at 10:50 am
So it is dawning on me that I may have a lot of visitors of late. Some, I don't mind their company, some I rather not have around. Some others, I have no idea what their intent towards me is.

How do I know this? I can feel them. I am not sure if this an obsession, but considering my current state of magical development, I am not ready for them and would like to have a means to keep them away from me until I am. I also would like a way to keep them out of my house when am trying to sleep and have them only visit me in my temple, not where I live.

Although I am open to any suggestion on how to handle this, I am specially thinking of trying to form a relationship with an entity (that you guys might know of) who is able to be my gate keeper so to speak.

Any suggestions and ideas?

Edit: Yes, I do use LBRP, and I am not sure if it is my current stage of development or it is dependent on the class of spirits, but sometimes it works, some times it does not.

Form of a celebrity/movie character?

  • Posted on August 5, 2011 at 6:12 am
Has anyone had a spirit guide in the Form of a celebrity/movie character? I had one that took on the form of Locke from lost because that was the image I at the time found most wise and spiritual. I used to have long conversations with him about how much of him was separate from me and how much was created by me and how it was kind of both, but after a while I found to too intrusive, so I had a polite but firm thought of "leave please".

Shadow Spirit

  • Posted on August 4, 2011 at 4:56 pm
For the last couple months, I've had a spirit following me.

It looks like a human shadow (3d)

It has a "hard" energy. It is difficult to describe. Best thing I think is "granite".

It has a tendency to go up and down my spine when I lay face down. It has not gotten past my shoulders.

It makes a "pop pop" sound when it is near.

It has a tendency to play with my energy centers in my solar plexus and my third eye.
Not sure why it is doing it.

I've only interacted with it mostly in my sleep and dreams. Actually between the state between waking and sleeping.

Any idea what this spirit could be?

Invoking Symbols

  • Posted on March 13, 2011 at 6:56 am
Recently, I've decided I am going to take up the practice of trying to merge with symbols from the western zodiac, tarot cards and any other symbol I may have lying around the house into my being.

My question is, what advice do you have on doing this. For example, if I decide to invoke the energy of Mars, what things should I be aware of? Is it possible to invoke at the wrong time, get too much energy into me and end up causing physical harm to myself?

What about the tarot?

The reason I doing this is to change do a constant paradigm shift (as Described in Phile Hine's books.), but instead of beliefs, it would be personas.

Evoking saturn

  • Posted on November 27, 2010 at 9:29 am
Hello.
Today I had an overwhelming urge to evoke Saturn, surprisingly at the hour of Saturn, and I've never evoked anything ever in my life but lately i've been reading and collecting information etc.
So, I used the Simple Method of Angelic Evocation guidelines, and I didn't have incence so I used a white candle instead. During the ritual, I saw nothing to show me that Saturn was with me, so I felt a little sad about that but I decided that for sure he is with me (forcing myself to believe it), so that's when I spoke to Saturn from my heart, telling him about me and how I was feeling. I asked him for two requests related to the same thing, not too far fetched, something obtainable but also just out of reach, and I asked him that if he did appear with me today, that he must show me these things within the hour. I then said 'What can I offer you in return?' and I never received a response, I felt as though my energy was somehow blocking him from talking because I was nervous. So I said 'in return i'll post your results on a forum' but something in my head told me that I needed to post the results on 5 forums. I was thinking to myself 'geez 5 forums...' but I decided fine i'll post Saturn's results on 5 forums.
Now here is the amazing part of everything. UP until this point, I had no clue that Saturn was there with me. As I was doing a prayer goodbye, I looked at the flame of the candle and the flame was spitting little balls of fire up into the air, about 5mm above the tip of the flame. I knew instantly that Saturn was there with me! Possibly his way of trying to show me that he was there all along! OMG I was so shocked but still pretty calm.
So then, I walked over to the flame (after my goodbye and end of the ritual) and said 'Saturn are you going to show me by doing the things I asked you to do, that it was you that was here' and the flame started going crazy! So I was like 'Thanks Saturn' and couldn't stop smiling.
So it wasn't an hour later, but it was about an hour and twenty minutes later, both of my requests came through.
So hence the reason for this post! Have faith everyone.

[Book Review] A witch’s guide to faery folk

  • Posted on September 28, 2010 at 12:17 pm
First of all: A disclaimer: I am not wiccan. I do not follow any wiccan traditions. I don't find wiccans to be lesser magicians, I am just not a follower. Hence, this may be found to have an anti-wiccan slant, which I do not mean as an offense.

This is a review of "A Witch's Guide to Faery Folk: How to work with the Elemental World" By Edain McCoy.

Let me start off by saying that I was not fond of this book. It's the first book I've bought that pertains to magical working with faeries, and so I expected a lot from it- it was a disappointment. Not only does it focus on faeries as mainly being astral beings, it tends to lump them all together. Also, almost all of the magical workings that it offers up for consideration of adding faery energy are wiccan based. Since I'm not wiccan, and moved away from that mumbo jumbo a long time ago, I found it to be useless.

I found the introduction useless. Overall it was a run down of the basic history of faeries as a phenomenon and some pretty prose about faeries and witches. The only thing I marked was this sentence: "To see a faery one must learn to "see" with the heart and mind as well as with the eyes." (page xii)

The book is divided into three parts to make it more useful I guess....

Part one is titled "All About the Little People." It is meant to be a guide to their personalities, their lore, how to find them, etc.

The first chapter is about their nature and history, and the main thing that I took away was that Faeries are sensitive beings (something that is pretty obvious). I liked that she mentioned the Nithsdale and Galloway Song (written by a scotsman about a Rade he saw), which is one of my favorite tellings of faery interaction. There are also little tips that I found interesting. I have never heard before that Wednesday is their day of rest- I marked it as a reminder to try to look and see if this is based in any form of fact, or if she determined this for herself through working with them.

The next chapter is about faery experience around the globe. There are several interesting little things in this very short chapter (Such as the manx cat supposedly being a faery pet), but I found it to be the same tired old lore rehashed that you can find just about anywhere. She also tied in Red and White as being Faery colors... and mentions that they're Goddess colors as well (I assume that has something to do with wiccan traditions).

Chapter Three is How and Where to Find Faeries. This was one of the chapters that was the main reason I bought this book to begin with, and is the chapter that I marked up the most. It even has a few starred passages. It describes ways to contact faeries, such as scrying, astral projection, and meditation. It also has a whole section on In-Nature Methods of contact, which I have found to be the most effective ways personally. It speaks of Shifted state contacts being easier in nature. It also describes a way to contact them by their fairy trail or ring. I found this to be an interesting method to try later (taking out the part of announcing that you are a fellow worshipper of the old Gods and Goddesses). I actually crossed out the part about Inviting faeries to your circle, because the whole thing is set up for a wiccan circle. While I find the idea interesting- and certainly possible- I find the way she has it set up a distraction, particularly because I don't call the four corners when I set up a circle. It also mentions magical teas to help open psychic centers (a valid idea, although I'm obviously not stupid enough to ingest an herb I don't know anything about. I really enjoyed the section about herbs and plants that you can plant that will encourage/scare away faeries. Although most of the ones that were listed were herbs that are listed elsewhere in common faerie encyclopedias/books, she had a few that I hadn't seen elsewhere. She also mentions leaving out food for faeries, which I found to be the common methods and items. She closes the chapter by talking about the Pagan Rede, another thing that I have found to really be a wiccan/witchcraft thing.

Chapter Four is about protecting yourself from faeries. While one would think that it is generally the same thing as protecting against any other kind of spirit, she cautions that it isn't. The section on traditional methods of protection is very well done, and I have it bookmarked for use if I ever need it. At the least it is an interesting account of historical mages/folk lore. The rest of the chapter though is useless. She covers things to watch for, such as hearing bluebells, as well as changelings and faery entrapment- which is covered in the majority of tales about faeries that one can find. Then there's a section on protection spells, which could be useful I suppose, although I think a basic protection spell will serve the same purpose. This chapter closes with a section on the exorcism of faeries, which is yet another wiccan based spell that includes alter set-up as well.

There is also a section/chapter on Guided Meditation into Faeryland. I haven't tried it, so I can't say if it is good or not. It reads like it may be good for a basic journey to discover oneself. It's based mainly in scottish lore, so if you're into that kind of thing it may work well. I have it marked as something to try on a rainy day since I really like the reference to the cauldron which reminds me of the book, "The Black Cauldron" and is one of my favorites.

Part two is titled "Working with Faery Beings, A guide to the day-to-day working relationship between a witch and the Little People." The beginning of this covers Spells and Rituals, and I have underlined that "Faeries are most adept in spellwork for environmental concerns, healing, fertility, and protection" (page 116). There is a section on creating your own faeryland residence, which is basically creating your own astral residence. It covers a few more things relating to that. Then it discusses ways to adapt spells for faery participation as well as healing, protection, prosperity, fertility, and love spells. Again, these could be useful (haven't used any), but are basically wiccan. This section also covers viewing past lives, petitioning dieties, lists faeries that are useful for specific aid, and a faery esbat ritual. It closes out with a ritual to gain ancient knowledge by working with the faeries who inhabit the big standing stones.

Chapter Six is called creating your own faery beings, and covers basic servitor creation. As I am unexperienced in this realm, I have very little to comment.

Part three is a dictionary of Faery Folk. It's a decent basic guide, but if you're looking for one to use all the time, I'd recommend Briggs' or Rose's. This one is different in that it lists ways that they can help magically, which you won't find in basic ones. I found it discouraging that almost all of the faeries are listed as "do not contact! Dangerous" or something similar.

The appendixes are pretty common for magic books from what I've read. *shrug* Overall this book is great for someone wiccan I guess. I hope this is helpful guys!

Modern Tsukumogami, Our 8 Million Gods

  • Posted on September 26, 2010 at 2:41 pm
The idea of the Tsukumogami is that any object, given enough time, will develop a spirit. Typically in japanese myth, this is one century.

Why is it when we are late for work and can't find our keys we actually start to blame our keys for 'not being where we put them'? Or perhaps you've been angry and slammed a door only to have it rebound at you? Did it make you feel like the door was agonizing you? Ever yelled at your car for stalling or your computer for crashing?

In our modern world, where almost everything is mass produced, do/can these objects have spirits all their own? Or does it take time as Shinto ascribes to? Or is it interaction with humans that facilitate the generation of their spirit?

To me some things do feel a little like tsukumogami and other things do not. I mean my car seems to have more of a spirit than my toothbrush. My mp3 player more so than my couch. My katana more than my bathtub.

But why? Is it only our perceptions and affinities that affect us or our affinities and "facetime" with the objects that affect them? Do objects gain a spirit without human contact? Where does simple "anthropomorphic transference" end and an actual awakening begin?

I spent days refinishing my coffee table and dining room table, but neither feel to hold a spirit. I spend a few hours a week with my katana and have made it an effigy for my aggression, but an effigy (or an "egregore" as others call these) is an actively created thoughtform. Humans impart all the energy (either directly or indirectly) that creates it. So it is even possible that tsukumogami can give rise to themselves without human transference or thoughtforms?

Umm…a spirit talking through my toes

  • Posted on September 22, 2010 at 10:09 am
It basically began when I made my first serious attempt at astral travel. During my attempt, I noticed something very peculiar: my toes 'wiggled' compulsively and quite dramatically so. I figured this was normal or atleast unimportant.

Since about this time, whenever I'm feeling particularly spiritual, especially after successful meditation sessions, my toes would always wiggle alot. Seemed like an interesting little 'twitch', perhaps even kinda cool!

So...recently one night, I'm in bed and very much awake since I had just laid down, and I took notice of my compulsively wiggling toes and thought it was strange how often they had been wiggling recently. I then went over in my head of the possibilities concerning my toes: 1) Is this some physical problem? 2) I have felt significantly spiritual lately, this could simply be an effect (As I've regarded it before then). 3) Maye it's a deva! BAM *Toes move extra violently!* So, I decided to explore the possibility.

(Spoken mentally) Hmm, If you're a deva, say yes! Wait, how will it say yes? Umm, for 'yes' do a wave with my toes from right to left, for 'no' left to right.
*Toes do the 'yes wave'
Woa, ok... Are you 'not' a deva?
* Toes do the no roll

This is interesting, although I still wasn't convinced yet, it'd take much more than that. Hell, maybe this is just my subconscious! "Toes, do a yes wave!" I thought and willed.
* Toes stay still

Ok, can I do the waves physically? I attempt the yes wave, and it's actually kinda tough! I attempt the no wave and find I can't do it! I simply couldn't move my toes like that, atleast to the extent they were moved when I...'asked'. (Although after a little practice it came through, but still)

This actually goes on for a little while, a kind of Q&A thing. In fact, I even established a small list of various toe responses with the spirit, deva thing (<-I don't know for certain so I use vague terms. But just in case your curious, when I asked "Are you a deva" like a second and third time, it said 'yes' :P). Throughout this Q&A, the 'toe' answers are consistent, and the 'toe response movements' accurate.

So now I think something is talking to me through my toes, and that all the wiggling before during 'spiritual spans of time' was it simply trying to get my attention. I was searching online for anything relatively close to this and found squat, so i thought I'd post here and see If you guys would have better luck or already know where to find info on this. So umm... good luck.

I've got a feeling that comments will be very interesting.

Owls

  • Posted on August 10, 2010 at 10:34 am
"The owls are not what they seem." - The Giant on Twin Peaks

Coin from Athens

I was recently on holiday in Germany. Just before I left I briefly witnessed an owl swoop down over my path one evening. At the time I didn’t think any more of it than the fact that I hadn’t seen an owl up close like that since I was a kid. About a week later in Berlin I began to notice owls popping up in various places; 1.) a stone owl statue in a backyard garden, 2.) randomly picking a book off of a shelf and opening it straight to a page with a big picture of an owl and 3.) noticing a former GDR nature reserve sign that features an owl and interestingly is also pentagonal in shape.

Those first two happened in the time span of about two hours and that is when I took note. Of course usually when too close attention is paid it is like waiting for boiling water so I saw no more. The third instance came a couple of days later when I had forgotten about it again. Again I started paying attention for a few days with no more owls until the thought eventually left my mind.

About a week after seeing the sign I was in a museum at the Buchenwald concentration camp memorial. There a large inkwell on display caught my attention. It featured a woman in a relaxed position with an owl perched on her knee and another sitting beside her. This is when I decided that owls are playing a role in events surrounding me in the moment.

I didn’t actually get personal pictures of any of these but I did find a picture of the inkwell:

And here is a picture of one of those nature reserve signs:

I’ve been back home almost a week now and have very quickly been researching the occult significance of owls for a few days. Strangely enough, internet hasn’t supplied much information I didn’t already know (you have to push aside all the Bohemian Grove stuff just to find one nugget of interest). I know owls have a wide variety of significance but I haven't been able to really find anything that really puts a finger on them. I’ve been more following leads in books I own and even though I haven’t found much, most references do seem to fit my current magical state of mind. The following is what I've found so far... at least what I find relevant.

I’ll start right off with a couple of Bohemian Grove references just to get that out of the way and because I do find them interesting to explore. This excerpt is from Toyne Newton’s The Dark Worship:
Quote:

Owls are regarded as mysterious birds owing to their predatory, nocturnal ways, so it is not surprising that they [Bohemian Grove] accorded it a place in occult symbolism. Besides the fifty-foot stone owl at the Bohemian Grove alter, there are other smaller wooden ones placed at various points in the same locality.

The 18th-century artist and poet William Blake portrayed Hekate as Queen of the Witches, and showed her being accompanied by her messengers - among others, an owl. Owls were also considered to be the witches’ familiar or incarnation. In Welsh mythology the owl is called adern y corff or corpse bird, while in Scottish Gaelic it is known as cailleach oidh che , which translates as 'night hag'. Cailleach is, of course, the death goddess and is linked to both Hekate and Kali. The owl also featured in some of the early Celtic and European cults, though mainly as a goddess type. The gold terminals of a torque (ancient metal collar or neck chain) dating to c. 400 BC, and discovered in the grave of a princess at Reinheim near Saarbrucken, Germany, depict a goddess with an owl emerging from her head.
Then Newton goes on to attribute the owl to Moloch which is what most Bohemian Grove researchers seem to do. I can’t find any credible sources to substantiate this Moloch claim outside of conspiratorial information regarding Bohemian Grove. I’ve always seen Moloch depicted as some form of infernal bull. But this owl attribution is consistently repeated like in the following from David Icke‘s The Biggest Secret.
Quote:

The owl is symbolic of Moloch or Molech, the ancient deity to which children were, and are, sacrificed. The Sumerian goddess, Lilith, known as the Lady of the Breasts, was also symbolized by an owl.

How interesting that when I was looking at a map of Washington I found that the roads within the grounds of the Congress Building make the very clear symbol of… an owl! You also find that the owl is sitting on a pyramid. The pyramid and all seeing owl. The collective word for owls is a parliament of owls, which is uncannily appropriate.
Et cetera… Icke then mentions the alleged mini-owl on the U.S. dollar bill. Most of that is laughable but I do find it interesting in an amusing way. So far two hits are Hecate and Lilith. These two I knew about, Hecate was the first thing that came to mind while I was in Germany, as well as an association with Athene as Robert Graves mentions in his The White Goddess.
Quote:

In Ireland the roaring of the sea was held to be prophetic of a king’s death. This warning also came with the harsh cry of the scritch-owl. Owls are most vocal on moonlight nights in November and then remain silent until February. It is this habit, with their silent flight, the carrion-smell of their nests, their diet of mice, and the shining of their eyes in the dark, which makes owls messengers of the Death-goddess Hecate, or Athene, or Persephone: from whome, as the supreme source of prophecy, they derive their reputation for wisdom.
In volume two of Anacalypsis Godfrey Higgins says "the first letter of the hieroglyphic alphabet was an owl, the emblem of wisdom".

This next excerpt is from Michael W. Ford’s The Book of the Witch Moon:
Quote:

The Mother of the Succubus and of Night, Lilith is a symbol of night and magkical power, Sorcery and Witchcraft. Her essence is that of Feminine strength and individual focus. The connection of Lilith with the cult of Vampirism has been noted by many, for through the Astral Plane this Goddess manifests on the Day Side as her fleshing ground. Just as with any pagan goddess or god, Lilith is not entirely of dark nature, being known as a protectress of mothers and children. The sacred bird of Lilith was the owl, one may seek to invoke, or identify with the goddess Lilith through the dream assumption of the owl form. Such experiments should prove insightful. Lilith’s name was suspected to have derived from the Sumerian Babylonian Belitilli. One rather interesting connection is that one of the 17 names of Lilith is actually KALI.
In Hecate’s Fountain Kenneth Grant attributes the owl to the sphere of Binah, "the sphere of Sentient Shadows, typified by the owl" and "the Demon-Queen Lilith, whose totem, the screech owl, is the emblem of the third cosmic power zone, Binah".

There are also associations of owls with so-called "aliens" like you can find in Whitley Strieber's Communion but this association seems to have deeper roots in occult lore. Strieber has admitted to having dabbled with the Goetia prior to having his experiences.

Owl Bumper Sticker
(my girlfriend is responsible for its execution but I initially drew the little owls)

So I'm curious about what owls mean to other members of OC as well as interested in any other sources of owl symbolism anyone can share.
