One night, a thief fleeing through Washington, D.C. is shot by a man carrying a briefcase. A pizza delivery man who witnesses the incident is also shot by the killer and is left in a coma. The following morning, a young woman is killed by a Metro train in an apparent suicide. Republican Congressman Stephen Collins (Ben Affleck) of Pennsylvania is distraught to hear the news, as the woman was Sonia Baker (Maria Thayer), a lead researcher on his staff. Collins, who has military experience, is leading an investigation into PointCorp, a private defense contractor with controversial operations involving mercenaries. Reporter Cal McAffrey (Russell Crowe) was Collins' college roommate. Collins reveals to McAffrey that he had been having an extramarital affair with Sonia and that she had sent him a cheerful video message on the morning of her death, which he believes is inconsistent behavior for someone about to commit suicide. Della Frye (Rachel McAdams), a reporter and blogger with the online division of Cal's newspaper and its editor, Cameron Lynne (Helen Mirren), discovers that Sonia's death occurred in one of only three CCTV blind spots in the Metro system. Cal believes the shootings are related to Sonia's death and finds a link between the thief and a homeless girl who sought out Cal. She gives him photographs that the thief, a friend of hers, stole from the killer's briefcase. The photos show surveillance images of Sonia talking to a well-dressed man. Della visits the hospital where the pizza delivery man is regaining consciousness. While at his room she witnesses the pizza delivery man shot dead by an unseen sniper. Later, she reviews CCTV footage and recognizes a man she saw at the hospital. It is revealed that PointCorp stands to gain $40 billion annually from its mercenary activities in the Middle East and domestically. Cal speaks with Collins, who shares his research findings -— PointCorp is cooperating with other defense contractors to create a monopoly and purchase government surveillance and defense contracts, essentially privatizing United States security. Cal's PointCorp insider returns with the address of someone linked to the suspected assassin. Cal finds the assassin living there. Cal calls the police, who force the man to disappear after he shoots at Cal. Della, following a lead, finds the identity of the well-dressed man speaking to Sonia in the photographs. He is Dominic Foy (Jason Bateman), a PR executive working for a subsidiary of PointCorp. Cal blackmails him into talking about his activities with Sonia and secretly tapes their conversation. The PR executive reveals that Sonia was paid to spy on Collins for PointCorp, but that she fell in love with Collins and was pregnant with his baby when she was killed. Before Cal's newspaper goes to press, Collins goes on record to present his research into PointCorp. Collins' wife Anne (Robin Wright Penn) reveals that she knows the amount of money Sonia received from PointCorp, after just hearing about it after Collins' statement to the newspaper. After the couple leaves, Cal realizes, although not relevant, that Collins knew already that Sonia was working for PointCorp. Cal then wonders what Collins would have done had he known he had been tricked and whether Collins himself is connected with the assassin. A picture of Collins from his military days, with the assassin in the frame, confirms Cal's hunch. Collins reveals that he had been suspicious of Sonia, and that he hired the assassin to watch her. The assassin is U.S. Army Corporal Robert Bingham (Michael Berresse), whose life Collins had once saved. Beginner needs help on "researching" what this approach I’m doing is.
Hi. I have primarily two different methods of causing altered states of consciousness/vision in me, and am interesting in researching/finding information about these methods/states/rituals whatever online, as I am a bit skeptical about how healthy these approaches are, as with how to discern "good" from "evil" under these states, and that I generally feel slightly more vulnerable, not strengthen (only in delightfulness and adventure), by these altered states, and am unfortunate (or not) to live a fairly isolated life, and as so do not have any "ally" to back me up if anything goes wrong.
"Rituals": looking at a mirror making a joker-face/grins etc, or simply sitting/laying during whatever posture focusing on causing an altered state of consciousness seem to work, at least to the very fair degree it must obviously be limited to as I don't even go through with it.
The mirror ritual, I guess, could be attributed to provoking my imagination into seeing the "shadows" I want to see. I do not go far with it, and so the results with this ritual only has a subjective "freaked-out"-value thus far.
The "focal meditation" ritual, which is simply focusing on causing an altered state of consciousness, mainly causes my vision to darken (brown'ish or black'ish feel and color-change to my vision). As I push this, and reach a level of decent "blackness" (only takes 10-40seconds or so), I am not able to hold onto the fair blackness as rigidly, and the blackness withdraws a little. I have only done these a few times in my life, but particularly one time recently (couple of weeks ago), I continued to "push" the altered state/blackening, and it felt like the state became slightly more "imprinted" or "permanent"/chronic as I went along. The degree of "fear" however slightly increased the longer I stuck to it (the feeling I have is that I'm becoming vulnerable to some evil/dark shit), and I quit when I was starting to feel a little afraid that I was reaching a state of borderline (as in 'on the edge of...') "portal-opening", as in inviting something, or causing permanent change to my consciousness, possibly to the worse.
Making my "fear" worse, an online friend I have, although I have not known this person for a long time and could really be anyone I guess (but was knowledgeable about subjects such as 'Robert Anton Wilson', which is a rare phenomenon in this country), said she's done/does the exact same thing -- she allegedly did it with a friend, went through with it entirely, and said that the end-result is that colors goes back to normal, but also that her friend looked like this:
Not very reassuring...
What are the phenomenons that I'm talking about here? How can I learn more?
Are they just minor tweaks, basically confirmation-bias + a minor usage of my imagination, conjured up for the quest I've decided to endure: finding the Puca? (what's making my grass green...)

Seven people died Thursday
The London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said four people were killed when security forces opened fire on protesters in the northeastern city of Deir Ezzor, as demonstrators gathered in the city's Freedom Square.
The group, citing an account from a doctor in the city, said 10 people were also wounded, some of them critically.
The state-run Syrian Arab News Agency published a report saying that "veiled armed groups on Thursday tried to put up barriers on roads in Deir Ezzor province."
"The armed groups also forced shop owners to close their shops in the city, terrified families, threatened citizens and destroyed some stores whose owners refused to respond to their demands."
