Arachnomancy ideas

  • Posted on October 24, 2011 at 4:19 pm
So, looking through the lists of various forms of divination throughout history, I am interested in experimenting with arachnomancy. I've had a love of spiders since I was little, and I had a tarantula for 5 years (who is probably still alive).
I'm interested in preferably having the spider in a small habitat for thicker webs, such as a jar. I'm curious to know what Florida spider species might b

Tarot Major Arcana and the Psalms

  • Posted on September 16, 2011 at 2:30 pm
Greetings, fellow path walkers:

Many know the correlation of the Major Arcana of the Tarot and the 22 letters of the Hebrew alphabet. I was perusing my Bible and came across Psalms 119. In some versions of the Bible it will show the title "Aleph" over the passage of Psalms 119:1-8 and "Beth" over 119:9-16, and so on. So when doing a reading and a Major Arcana turns up, one may look up the appropriate passage to get further insight into the divination.

Psalms 119:

Aleph: 1-8
Beth: 9-16
Gimel: 17-24
Daleth: 25-32
Heh: 33-40
Vau: 41-48
Zayin: 49-56
Cheth: 57-64
Teth: 65-72
Yod: 73-80
Kaph: 81-88
Lamed: 89-96
Mem: 97-104
Nun: 105-112
Samech: 113-120
Ayin: 121-128
Peh: 129-136
Tzaddi: 137-144
Qoph: 145-152
Resh: 153-160
Schin: 161-168
Tau: 169-176

In Light,
soulcraft

Tarot fiction-writing prompt spread

  • Posted on September 1, 2011 at 8:40 pm
This spread is kind of like a past-present-future, or beginning-middle-end, based on a plot structure my fiction workshop professor used to discuss with us:

1 - Get your character up a tree. (Situation, setting, salient characteristics of protagonist and others, beginning [chronological or otherwise]).
2 - Throw rocks at him/her (Change, conflict, new variable, middle).
3 - Get your character down from the tree. (Transformation complete, resolution, surprising but inevitable turn, ending).

I just did one, and it appears to be a love story:

1 - Hermit
2 - Queen of Wands
3 - Two of Cups

well, I hope I don't make myself sick writing it. ;)

Psyche map divination…

  • Posted on August 14, 2011 at 8:41 am
I plan on doing a serious dualistic transcending rite next weekend, or a series of minor rites over a period of time if I am not yet ready to enter the abyss. I was thinking of using the tarot to first divinate the NUMBER of psyche divisions I should use, than draw a card for each of those divisions and see what they are. Than see how many aspects should make up a significant percentage of those facets by divinating a card drawn number for each psyche division, than draw cards to see WHAT those traits are.

Does this seem applicable?

Edit: It is. I have a good map thus far. :D

Possible Stalker

  • Posted on August 13, 2011 at 6:21 am
This morning (7:15am), I was going to the local gas station minding my own business. When I pulled up the gas pump, a black woman wearing glasses drove up in front of me and began recording me with her phone cam. At first, I thought it was weird, but didn't pay much attention to her.

I went into the station to pre pay and when I came out, she pull her car up and was recording me from inside the store.

I went to the pump and she went to the drive way (the part of the parking lot the exits into the road) she was still recording. Now I knew she was recording me. I don't know who she is. I have no idea why she was doing this but I didn't like it. So I got into my car, picked up a piece of candy off the floor, and threw it at her. It didn't hit her (nor did it even come close to her car) but it sent the message for her to go away and she did.

Now the reason I am posting this is I have no idea why she would do this and I already mentioned I don't know this woman. I can not also recall not doing anything to piss any one off lately, so I would like some help figuring out what is up and what motivating her to do this. I already called the police and they said it isn't illegal.

No, I was not able to see the license plate. That the first thing I should have looked for. And for those who say I'm reading too much into this, personal experience of mine says when ever something very out of the ordinary happens, it is a sign something dramatic is sure to follow.

If any one is wondering, yes I will be happy to pay some sort of compensation. I have to admit, I can't pay much but I will give what I can give.

Thanks.

Stone Divination

  • Posted on August 5, 2011 at 9:20 am
Despite searching for many days, I cannot find a thread that discusses stone divination in even shallow depths. Nowhere have I seen discussion on what kinds of stones, techniques, visual mappings, or the like. If you use stone divination, or know about different techniques and methods, please share your own insights or knowledge.
I'm aware of a method that involves using a yes stone, a no stone, and a question stone, in which the response is determined by how close the question stone is to either of the answer stones. My goal is to find a way to divine with more than two stones, perhaps 5 or 9. And I want to use a mapping of some kind.

Divining Stone (Need Volunteers)

  • Posted on August 1, 2011 at 8:01 am
I need a few (meaning 2-3) volunteers who are willing to allow me to mail them a divining stone to be used for simple divining purposes (to answer simple yes, no type questions) and report to me any experience they have in using the stone.

I am making a small, 2-3 or 4 sided stone to be used for divining a simple question that would require yes or no type answers. I have started making a few of these and before I continue, I would like a few folks to try them out and see how they work for them.

Your requirement will be to report back to me in this thread and let me know your work with the stone and what you think about it. Please do NOT accept this offer if you are not interested in working with the stone and reporting back. I really don't need to waste my efforts, time and money on mailing out the stones to people who will not leave accurate feedback or will not even use the stone. So do not respond if you have no intention of using it and participating.

If interested, please let me know in this thread. When I have enough folks, I will PM you for your address to mail the stone to you. Thanks~

(no divining experience necessary, but I do need at least a couple of people who do divining regularly please)

strange Geomancy chart

  • Posted on July 30, 2011 at 4:49 pm
I drew up a shield chart a few moments ago and the results were odd. Mothers 1-4 and daughters 1-4 were identical. The order, starting with mother 1 was: via, puella, puer, cauda draconis.... this led to the daughters being the same, in the same order. The nephews then repeated a pattern of: rubeus, greater fortuna, rubeus, greater fortuna. Both witnesses were caput draconis. And the judge, populus. I've never had this happen and I'm unsure of its significance.. if there is any. The question was basically asking if I would get something I wanted. The only thing I can come up with is that the chart is saying it's completely up in the air. Or that there's a pattern repeating.

Has anyone else had a similar experience with charts like this?

Archaic/Eclectic means of divination

  • Posted on July 12, 2011 at 10:54 pm
I'd like to take a momentary break from the flood of tarot, i-ching and crystal-gazing discussion. As interesting as these methods are and as effective as they can be, I think it's safe to say that most of us have been there, done that, at some point.

My question to all of you kind folk is, what are some of the more "out-there" methods you've used for seeing beyond your material scope? I'm talking some of the older and less common methods, like tossing dirt on the ground and watching how it lands, or watching the flight of birds, or staring into a roaring fire, or slicing open an animal and looking at its organs, or letting a hen waddle around a circle with scattered grains and watching where it goes to peck, or tossing animal bones or shells and watching them roll...

Or maybe even something you've created on your own, something completely unique. Come on, share, gentlepeople.

Wildwood Tarot

  • Posted on July 11, 2011 at 7:47 am
So a few of us have ordered this deck and have recently received it. What are your thoughts about the deck so far. I also want to use this thread to maybe learn and study the deck together. How do you go about studying and getting to know a new deck when you get one?

For me I get a blank book and get comfy. I read the book accompanying the cards and take notes in my book, I read to the point of getting to the actual cards descriptions. Then I start with "0" and take each card out as I read about it and take notes in my book, meditating a bit on that card before proceeding to the others.

As for the overall look of this deck. It does not appear to have the same quality of other decks I have dealt with, but for $14 you cannot expect too much I suppose. I was attracted to the cards on the Net by their reviews, the pics of the few cards given and John Matthews being a part of the deck. I was not disappointed in the look of the cards when I opened them up. Each picture is beautifully illustrated and you get a good feel of the meaning of those cards when you look at the details of the illustrations. At first I thought I would have appreciated a more elaborate design on the back of the cards, but then I realized that would have taken away from the beauty of the cards and not added to it at all.

I like the way the book is written but wonder if someone is not into the Druids or England or even Nature if they would find the book and the cards as intriguing as I do. Of course, that is one thing that drew me TO the cards. Nevertheless, I am looking forward to learning these cards and seeing how they read and what lies in store for me in my relationship with them.

Michael....care to add your impression of the cards and opinion. If anyone else has the deck or is considering buying it, feel free to discuss it here. I hope to get back to this today and actually start reviewing each card here. I will scan and put up a pic of each card as we review it.

"Street" Deck.

password for the .rar is "marseille".

it's purely a prototype deck, made using images off google images, but i toook care to select them,, and some of them have had some 'shopping. (ie. i couldnt possibly sell this without original artwork) my original plan was to get people off the forum i run to contribute to the artwork, but in the absence of that, i took a short cut.

i started with the idea that there are no tarot decks which have contemporary imagery that someone at street level, with no concept of the occult, could get there hands on. too much fluff these days, either happy clappy "angel" cards, or the barrier of the traditional tarot mystique. so i came up with this deck. eventually i'll get the minor arcana done (Guns, Blades, Books, Coins) too.

see what you think anyway. i posted a link to this in the welcome mat, but i did get a positive post which made me think i ought to post it here too.

swapping cards…

  • Posted on June 28, 2011 at 8:16 am
So I've been wondering- since you can use cards to divine your future, could you not, if you happened to get a reading you didn't like, swap them out in the spread for something more favorable? If you made it an empowered act, do you think you could echo back up the line and influence the coming reality? I mean, I Know it can be done, magick working like it does, I guess I just wondered if anyone had done it?
Or along the same lines, just straight up laying out a favorable spread for something, and casting it like a sigil (I'm not familiar enough with the card meanings to trust myself doing it with any accuracy, but I thought someone who really resonated with the cards might find the idea useful. )

I have looked at Wildwood Tarot, Greenwood Tarot, The New Orleans VooDoo Tarot (out of curiosity) and even DruidCraft Tarot.

Anyone got any opinions, tried any of these, seen any of the decks, have others you would suggest?

Have you ever gone/decided AGAINST your divinations…?

  • Posted on June 6, 2011 at 3:33 pm
...and what were the consequences? (negative? = as 'expected' or even positive?). I would especially be interested in results of 'small-time divinations', meaning 'oracles' that you maybe ask many times a day, respectively on a frequent basis [at certain intervals] or again and again in the framework of some concentrated (psychotic) working.

Would be genuinely interested in this. (for once) ;)

p.s. I am not too interested in warnings about making oneself dependent of some 'thing' as I am aware of that already...still, if you have something creative to say about this, it's o.k., too...

Nine of swords

  • Posted on June 6, 2011 at 11:44 am
How do you feel about the card 9 of swords. I've been using the thoth tarot deck where it is called cruelty. Crowleys interpertation of the card is that it is the realm of pyschopath and fanatic. Also the card can be dealt with passive resistance, resignation and acceptance of martyrdom. One author says that the cruelty implied is cruelty towards oneself. Guilt, nightmares etc. One tarot-expert told me that anyone who pulls this card is in need of psychological consultation. It is hard for me to undestand how air through yesod could have such negative interpertations. What are your thoughts on the subject?

Omens

  • Posted on May 7, 2011 at 11:43 am
I posted this question in here for I thought it was related.

Now for the longest time, I had a picture of Marzanna (a slavic death goddess) posted on my kitchen wall. (Actually this one http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Morana_%26_Vesna.jpg) I found it appealing for some reason, just didn't know why.
I've torn it down 4 weeks ago for another reason and haven't seen it since..

Now I had a rough time for the last two weeks and at the end of it, when it came to a peacefully close, I seen the same image again.

Could this mean something or is it just my overactive imagination?

Personal tarot card layout

  • Posted on April 18, 2011 at 5:15 pm
The rough diagram of my layout for tarot card readings:

The first card is put down in the present position and represents the present influence of the questioner.
The second card is put down in the past position and represents the past element influencing the questioner.
The third card is put down in the future position and represents the future element influencing the questioner, or in other words, the intentions or desires.
The fourth and fifth cards are then put down. The card placed in the sky position is directed or should be interpreted in regards to both the past and future element cards, and represents the "spiritual" element at play. Likewise with the earth position card, which represents the more mundane element at play.
Together, these cards direct the sixth card which is put down horizontally across the present position, representing the present psychological element of the questioner.

Before this time, the questioner has already cleared their mind and been concentrating on the subject of their inquisition. Now whatever questions they have on the subject may be asked.

Once the question is posed, the seventh card is put down across the past position and the eighth is put down across the future position, indicating the elements of past decisions and future destiny directing the outcome.
Now the ninth card is put down vertically over the first and sixth cards, being directed by both the top past and future cards, as well as the sky and earth cards. This presents a dynamic relationship of elements laid forth on the top of each position, directing the interpretation of the outcome element.

Any comments or constructive ideas?

Understanding The Devil in my tarot reading

  • Posted on April 4, 2011 at 10:25 am
I have been using single card readings to answer questions I put to my Rider Waite tarot and I always find the answers pertinent.
When asked how I can gain abundant wealth it answered -The Devil.
When asked what can help me win a large sum of money it answered -The Devil.

Does this mean I am overly attached to material wealth and don't realize the deception ie. the chains can be removed, the torch can light the way out. Am I giving too much importance to money in my hopes of freeing family from wage slavery.

I also understand the being called Pan or Lucifer is actively worshipped in some magick orders. Is the devil a sign I should join such an order? (The Devil also came up when asked the benefit of joining an order.) As for how I choose an order, I think i need to do more research and look at discussions elsewhere on the forum.

Any comments or help in my understanding of this cards message would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for reading.

Help interpreting and I Ching message from a Spirit please

Can some kind soul interpret an I Ching Trigram for me please ?
A short elderly Chinese lady , who is the mother of a friend, appeared in spirit and showed me a golden trigram for Heaven . She held it up like a window frame behind my friend and then as I turned to the right or left she appeared again silent but holding this trigram. I have used I Ching for divination but I am not familiar with spirit showing two parts of the trigram about to come together.

but the middle line was on the left of the trigram. The unbroken line means 7 . What is her message ?

thoughts on reversals.

  • Posted on February 9, 2011 at 2:08 pm
Hey all, over the years I have read a plethora of different interpretations on the meanings and role of reversals when using the tarot. I have been using a good website which formulates these ideas when dealing with reversals:

* still in its early stages
* losing force and power
* blocked or restricted
* incomplete
* inappropriate
* being denied
* only present in appearance

I was wondering if there are any other opinions or what your personal use with reversals are as I have just recently began using them and they are coming up more often in my daily drawing.

Geomancy

  • Posted on January 31, 2011 at 5:40 pm
I've been doing some research and experimenting with Geomancy and I've run into a couple of sticking points. Different authors give different methods setting down the 12 figures into the house chart. It seems most authors I've looked into place the 12 figures into the house chart in order. Figure one goes in house 1, figure 2 in house 2, etc. Agrippa, on the other hand, places the figures differently. Mothers are placed into the angular houses (1, 10, 7, 4), daughters in the succedent houses (2, 11, 8, 5) and the nieces in the cadent houses ( 3, 12, 9, 6 ). Agrippa also calculates the nieces differently in that he creates them out of one mother and one daughter each, instead of the common method of mother 1 + mother 2 = niece 1. Mother 3 + mother 4 = niece 2, etc. There's also some differences in what planet/sign is associated with each figure.

So I'm curious, for those of you who have some experience with Geomancy, which method do you use? I just tried both methods with the same 16 rows of dots and the charts came out vastly different.

[Review] The Answer is Simple Oracle Deck

  • Posted on January 29, 2011 at 1:45 pm
"The Answer is Simple" by Sonia Choquette

This deck is the one I turn to when I want something more straightforward than, but just as assertive as the Tarot. I am sometimes inclined to overanalyze situations, and the Tarot can enable this terrible habit by having so many layers of symbolism for my mind to latch onto. So, when I want to be "gentle, but firm" with myself, and make it easy to remain detached, I use the Simple deck.

There are 62 cards. Each is numbered and contains a word or phrase, such as "Stop" or "Decide the outcome." The illustrations are bright, colorful, and playful. They bring light in the form of laughter to a situation, which helps one avoid taking oneself too seriously.

For instance, if a situation requires moderation, one might draw Temperance from the Tarot. In Rider-Waite, Temperance features a very serious-looking angel doing a highly symbolic balancing act with water and cups. There is of course wisdom to be drawn from this card. On the other hand, one could draw "Be Patient" from The Answer is Simple. It shows children lining up at a yellow slide, waiting their turn. It's a refreshing image. Who needs a serious angel? Patience: you've got this. You've been practicing patience since you were a little kid.

Cards illustrate dramas. Sometimes we want our dramas to have great depth of meaning and purpose, but most of the time, dramas are silly things that the ego gets tangled up in needlessly. If you find yourself doing far too many spreads on the same irksome topic, perhaps you should give this deck a try. You may pull card #3, "Drop it", which shows a hot air balloon rising as a woman drops weight from it.

I picked "Drop it" yesterday, and read this handy little insight in the guidebook:

Quote:

"The ego lives in the past and loves to rehash its suffering over and over again. The Spirit, on the other hand, lives in the present and looks to joyful new possibilities every day. What is your ego dwelling on again, distracting you from the joy of the moment? Where is your attention - on your ego or on your Spirit? Are you focusing on the past or the present? What old news of yesterday are you clinging to? Isn't it time to let it go?

Your Spirit is beckoning you to drop the past and focus on the moment, where there's a bright and beautiful present waiting for you. Pay attention to what's in front of you now. Notice the sounds, colors, feelings, people, and events of today. This is the day that will change your life for the better, and you're at great risk of missing out on it - so don't. Look up: Before the day is over, you'll receive a beautiful present... if only you're able to notice what it is."
As a result of taking this advice to heart, I arrived on time and prepared to a lively Nerf game in the snow on my college campus. A baker's dozen people showed up. There is a past in which I was a lonely child, in which I felt worthless and unwanted and truly believed nobody wanted to play with me. So I never played much. Do you know how much that sucks? Yesterday, there was one other woman at the game. The rest were young men. I teamed up with the woman and we died pretty quickly on the first couple rounds of Last Man Standing. But then we got the hang of it. When we played Humans vs. Zombies, we brought down the two final humans - dodging Nerf darts, circling, and diving for them relentlessly while the other zombies kept getting shot and having to run all the way back to the spawn point (In plain English: we pwned).

We took a break before playing Capture the Flag (with Nerf weapons, guys!!) and I had a lot of fun chatting with the other players. During CTF, I aimed like a boss and dodged just as well and saved my teammate's butts a few times. In other words, I played the game and thoroughly enjoyed it! I made some friends, got a good workout, improved my Nerf blowgun skills, and - here's the surprise gift - reminded my ex of why he fell in love with me in the first place. I worried that he was going to get shot or run into a tree while he attempted to gaze longingly into my eyes. I felt like an idiot for ever having been sad. Ever.

Oh. I asked about that ex-in-love-with-me-again situation today and the card said "Be patient." But that's another story, outside the scope of this review.

I will always keep this deck, because it's nice to ask a serious question about a serious topic and receive an answer that makes you smile. Even when it gives advice that's been historically difficult to follow, the lighthearted mood encourages you to try again, and succeed. Why not? The answer is simple. It's a deck to consult when you're a little unsure, but you know you really want to put away the oracles and live a little.

Tarot IDS

  • Posted on January 28, 2011 at 2:16 pm
I have been doing an IDS (Intensive Deck Study) since the beginning of January and expect to do it for the year. I'm blogging it as well as cross posting entries on AT and Infinity Network and figured it might be a nice resource here as well. The deck study is on the Fairy Tale Tarot by Lisa Hunt. This deck is full of gorgeous pictures and each card relates to a fairy tale or folklore, which is something I really love about it (you all know how much I love mythology lol). I'll be updating this thread probably between weekly and every other week, depending on how busy I am. It's about a week's work of daily work... but homework has been stretching this out. I generally update on Saturdays-- it seems to be the best day for it. Feel free to comment/criticize and leave clarifications or ask questions. <3

Need additional thoughts on tarot reading

  • Posted on January 21, 2011 at 9:35 pm
Hello all, as some of you may have noticed from a previous post or two I have mentioned this new job I have. It is completely a reversal in progress from my career as an audio engineer and has been kind of driving me a bit mad (and today was only my 4th day there).

I did an LBRP and drew the celtic cross spread:

I am fearful of the Tower but the other cards do show more positive consequences of me leaving. I believe that the 4 of cups being the root of my dilemma/or what I could use to my advantage symbolizes my utter displeasure in the hustle and bustle of working away time I could have spent doing more profound things.

I also am unsure of (but will be ever vigilant of) the page of wands as a messanger or envoy,

Overall I get the sense that it would be unwise to just quit outright but to expect sudden revelation or forced change which is symbolic of the Tower, also that my displeasures may be my own emotional production.

Also that I may use the Ace of Swords which helped to get me from a state of unemployment may also help me to move onto the next venture which could also come with the envoy Page of Wands, also the Ace of Wands is kind of baffling to me, perhaps it signifies my recent use of magick and divination to solve a problem which I would have usually let eat away until some catastrophic neurosis of the ego led me to rampantly destroy the finer fabrics of my existance... *catches breath*** weheew...

well haha, thoughts? comments?

Looking for Tarot Cards the size of playing cards.

  • Posted on January 17, 2011 at 2:19 pm
I am looking for tarot cards the size of playing cards.

I have small hands and have issues shuffling the card tarot cards and the small ones are way to small. I also want to be able to put them in my pocket and not have them be a huge thing in the way.

Does anyone have any links to a site that sells them?

I have looked into making my own from blank playing cards i can get on amazon, but I am a beginner with the cards so i think that starting with an establish deck first would be a better idea.

I thought about using playing cards, but i would rather start with the tarot before moving on to using other things.

Thanks.

Thoth deck "official" procedure – need clarification

  • Posted on January 14, 2011 at 11:41 pm
I love the Thoth deck. The art, imagery, and especially COLORS really speak to me. But I have never found a reading layout that I am comfortable with, except for some single-card readings.

I have been trying recently to use the process described in The Book of Thoth, but I cannot understand some of the instructions, see example below.

Can anyone recommend a resource online, or maybe just explain in different words? I have no idea what I am supposed to do.

I am also open to other spreads.

Thanks!

EXAMPLE HERE:
"Count the cards from him, in the direction in which he faces. The counting should include the card from which you count.

For Knights, Queens and Princes count 4.
For Princesses count 7.
For Aces, count 11 [5].
For small cards, count according to the number.
For trumps, count 3 for the elemental trumps; 9 for the planetary trumps; 12 for the Zodiacal trumps.

Make a "story" of these cards. This story is that of the beginning of the affair.

7. Pair the cards on either side of the Significator, then those outside them, and so on. Make another "story," which should fill in the details omitted in the first."
