How I practice Astrology.

  • Posted on October 15, 2011 at 5:19 am
I was never sure if Astrology was real, or not, until I began thinking about it Hermetically. As above so below, and as below so above, the microcosm is within the macrocosm, and the macrocosm without the microcosm. Or better put order reflects itself throughout the planes, so that, that which is above can be likened to that which is below.

Planet earth, is a point on the map of the material

Almuten Figuris? Help in calculating?

  • Posted on August 16, 2011 at 2:10 pm
I've been recently drawn to a lot of ideas in renaissance astrology. One of them is, to over simplify) a way of calculating out the ruler of your chart. In modern astrology this is straight forward, usually it's the ruler of your ascendant or you play around with depositors. The Almuten is more complex, taking a lot more into consideration.

I /think/ I understand how to do it and have tried a few times, but without confirmation I'm not sure if I'm doing it right.

Would anyone here know how to do it, and be willing to give an example chart and show the math, so I could try and make sure I match?

(If no one does I guess I'll keep working and later on make an more expansive post on how to do it, heh)

[Article] Uranian magick – The old seer who stirs magick.

  • Posted on July 26, 2011 at 12:08 am

Uranus, is the planet which lies outside of the 7 classical bodies.

Sol, Mercury, Venus, Gaia, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn.

Sol is the self ego, the center of creation, and yellow magick.

Mercury is the intellect, the mind of order, the trickster, and orange magick.

Venus, is the seducer, the sexual union of life, the beautiful, and red magick.

Gaia is the mortal sphere, the plane of formation, mother nature, and green magick.

Mars, is the warrior archetype, the planet of struggle, strength, and blue magick.

Jupiter is the king god of the heavens, the planet of authority and great wealth, and indigo magick.

Saturn, is the grim reaper, the keeper of the hourglass of time, raw change, and purple magick.

Thus we follow the rainbow, and at it's end we find a real pot of gold, Uranus.

Uranus is octarine magick (a magentia, or pearl color), and follows the path of the Ouroboros, the edge of the cosmos, where serpents and dragons dwell.

In the Greek creation myths Uranus was the first being, not really a god, but not really a titan, like Gaia the middle planet of the 7 spectrum, he displayed signs of each. Primordial force, and cosmic intelligence.

Neptune and Pluto, Jupiter's brothers, who divided creation into three planes, and ruled over each, lie beyond Uranus, but this isn't a static order. There were only 7 classical planets, visible to the naked eye, and all rest were stars, a more mystical body of light, that twinkled when gazed upon, or not seen by the naked eye at all.

Uranus, isn't really the 8th celestial body, of the solar system, but the 8th magical body. For the number eight is the symbol of infinity. That which has no beginning or end and surrounds the entire cosmos.

Infinity isn't just removed from the cosmos though, as that would make it outside of the cosmos, and unable to have created, effected, and finally absorbed (destroyed) it.
It is around the cosmos, and bleeds a current, coming and going, into it.

This current is the staff and magic bag of the old seer named Uranus. From here he creates and destroys all things according to the great will of the Infinite. No mortal knows why, though it's been whispered to Uranian mages that the Infinite created the finite, to explore itself through pieces of itself, only to after some things are changed and some left alone, it put's the pieces back together and lives as it self created itself forever after, after the death of the finite cosmos.

Note: Gaia is Uranus's mate because she is the great body of light and darkness combined, being the middle planet, from life Sol, to death, Saturn, and the only other thing which contains equal amounts of light and dark, is the unlimited infinite itself, where all dualities are cancled out without detroying them, but transmuting them.

Samhain or Winter Solstice ?

  • Posted on July 8, 2011 at 5:18 am
For some time now, since I've been paying a lot more attention to the moon phases these last couple of years, I've been playing around with the (very) old idea of making myself a "natural" calendar. One of the fundamental issues I've wondered about is the beginning of a new year.... It seems that most Wiccan based beliefs cite Samhain as the "day between time" and the next day as the beginning of a new year - whereas those with Druidic influences side with the Winter Solstice as being the starting point.

Honestly, I feel torn in this respect - for as long as I can remember, the beginning of November has always had a "new" feel to it for me; but I can also see the logic of using the Solstice... hmmm....

Thoughts anyone ? Has anyone here devised (or found) a natural calendar that they like and use ?

Thanks !

Moon Eclipse in Sagittarius tonight ?

  • Posted on June 14, 2011 at 11:32 pm
Since the beginning of the first quarter of moon phase this month (the 8th or 9th), I'm been working on an ongoing candle petition scheduled to end whenever the last candle burns out after the full moon tomorrow. Till a short time ago I've felt pretty positive about the whole thing.... but NOW it comes to my attention that there is an eclipse of the full moon....

In general, what kind of an effect can I expect here ? Is this bad news ? It seems to me that I read that eclipses are very, very detrimental in most every respect....

"Fixing" Problems in Charts

  • Posted on May 30, 2011 at 4:27 am
I know in jyotish and other Eastern branches of astrology there are methods of fixing issues in your chart. Have a bad Saturn/Mars placement? Say this mantra a few thousand times, offer a puja, that'll help it. Bad Venus transit coming? Go give X to Y, it'll help. That kind of thing.

I was wondering two things. First if anyone with more information on jyotish has a recommendation on a book or resource that describes just such a process. Secondly I was wondering if such a thing existed in any of the Western forms of astrology, and again if anyone would have a book or recommendation of a resource in regard to that. My planetary spirits have given me some things to work with, but I'd also like to see what exists already.

A good planet for uncrossing?

Hey everyone!

I've been trying to puzzle out what planet would be best for a magical working to uncross someone. I'm thinking the Sun is the best bet...but maybe it could depend on other planets, depending on specifics about the crossed condition?

Wednesday 18th March 2011

  • Posted on May 19, 2011 at 10:57 am
So yesterday, alot happened, especially in ireland

A major event was the British Queen visiting, which raised tensions high but tensions seem to be raised high in other places and people, like in my school/course I got extremely infuriated for no real reason, later my friend has a panic attack (is okay now!), later girlfriend gets irritated by silly things and then just about to sleep, I hear slamming and shouting in my kitchen, I get up in m underwear and run into there to see my dad's gf on the ground with my dad chasing her out.

All the events were later resolved.

My question is, was this work of some powerful (most likely) Saturn transit? and if so, is there any more days like this soon to come because the challenges of saturn tend to more like a quest, rather then a single puzzle at least to my understanding.

Planetary Tuning Forks

  • Posted on May 14, 2011 at 9:57 am
It seems that a Swiss mathematician, Hans Cousto, has, among other things, created a set of tuning forks that emit tones corresponding in frequency to the various planets. For instance, the one for Jupiter vibrates at 183.58Hz - which I believe is a perfect F#, the tone generally ascribed to Jupiter in ancient texts...

Has anyone here incorporated musical tones into their practices ? From a logical standpoint, the whole idea appears to have some validity....

Re Examining what I have Traditionally viewed as Morality…

  • Posted on April 30, 2011 at 10:33 am
Okay. Here is a little model that I am proposing as the one that might be working in My Universe. If No Thing were to be taken as a given, for example, as in the case of complete Anarchy, no two or more people would be capable of forming a Co Operative Effort. If no two or more people were capable of a Co Operative Effort, The Human Race would perish. I am Assuming that I Desire Co Operation with others as a selfish tool to a greater means. The Reality may be that I am in Truth Built with my own Moral Compass. To Avoid Getting Hurt through my apparent need to dislike or like certain events, I must then designate these events as out of my control in large Part. This Leaves the Apparent task of Discerning Exactly where my Sphere of control Ends, Or Begins. Given that I am lacking in the actual Knowledge of my origin, Where can I find the Part that is Built in? To Avoid this slippery slope, I would propose for my self a plan of action that involved consciously giving way to those people who happen to have plans dissimilar from mine. Good News, Gay People: when I am in charge, you get to be married. And any person or group of fully consenting people can feel free to do what they please without feeling any Judgement Coming from me; who is clearly inexperienced in making decisions about how to run the Universe. So , Good Luck To all. I hope that all of you with all of your differing views are still here again, and again, and again.

Protection magic and a Saturn/Mars opposition

  • Posted on April 12, 2011 at 4:50 pm
Here is my situation: As of this morning, I have completed a magical operation to uncross myself after having suffered under a crossed condition for quite some time. Having broken up and lifted my crossed condition, I would like to set up personal and home protection.

Usually, according my sources, protection would fall under the auspices of Saturn. At the same time, through a course on sorcery I've been taking, I learned about calling on two or more planets for the same working. A good example would be Saturn and Mars for protection magic designed with an aspect of aggression toward those who mean you harm. In a case like this, Saturn acts as your shield and Mars as your sword, so to speak. Long story short, for my own reasons I want solid protection with that aggressive element.

Unfortunately, the astrological weather between Saturn and Mars is not good right now. There is an opposition between them that will continue at least through the middle of April. This is really irritating because calling on Saturn and Mars would be ideal, and after the crossed condition I went through, I want some guns, big fucking guns, to help prevent that from happening again.

A viable alternative I figured out would be to call on Saturn and the element of Fire, basically bringing in the Fire of Saturn. I'm focused on this type of protection because I'm going to be using Hoodoo condition products called Fiery Wall of Protection, and my main concern is picking a good time to empower the supplies.

So OC, what do you guys think? Would it be viable to move forward with Saturn and Mars even though they're in Opposition? Any other ideas?

Dignified in my chart question ??

  • Posted on March 27, 2011 at 7:02 am
I am truly a fish out of water when it comes to things dealing with astrology - something about just doesn't seem to 'click"...

Anyway, if one of you has the time, I have a question regarding the moon's placement in my chart - specifically if it is "dignified", or not ? For that matter, any information regarding the moon in relation to myself would be helpful - especially anything pertaining to whether or not a moon related talisman would be beneficial or a hinderance to moi...

Try as I might, I simply cannot get my PC to upload a picture of it (the chart, that is), but my information is as follows:

I was born in Lewiston, Maine (04240) on Dec. 11th, 1957 at 6:18pm. Thanks to a computerized horoscope, I know that the following is true:

Sun is at 19deg 40min of Sagittarius in House 6
Moon is at 10deg 53min of Leo in House 2
Mercury is at 9deg 56min of Capricorn in House 6
Venus is at 4deg 17min of Aquarius in House 7
Mars is at 22deg 23min of Scorpio in House 5
Jupiter is at 25deg 38min of Libra in House 4
Saturn is at 17deg 7min of of Sagittarius in House 6
Uranus is at 11deg 23min of Leo in House 2
Neptune is at 3deg 57min of Scorpio in House 4
Pluto is at 2deg 18min of Virgo in House 2
Ascendant is at 20deg 42min of Cancer in House 1
Midheaven is at 29deg 39min of Pisces in House 10

Thanks for your time (to anyone who might take a shot at this) !

Essentially, if anyone has anything to say about aliens or intelligent life from other planets, or otherwise extraterrestrial beings, please contribute to this thread. Some points of discursive gravity include, but are not limited to, the deification of aliens or otherwise worship of them, the theological relations of aliens, alien mythos, and so forth.
I do plan to pull certain ideas from this thread, but I'm unable to express my intentions without further response. Thank you for your patience.
(I created this thread because I could not find another facilitating the same purpose. If there is one, please point it out.)

On the Prime Material Universe – The Earth Element

  • Posted on March 24, 2011 at 8:18 pm
In D&D the Prime Material Universe is the physical plane. I borrow the termonology as I like it. Prime, implying the first or root, and Material implying the world of matter, which is objects seperated by layers of space which have varying densities.

The Earth element is a mixed element, primarily low and dark, and secondary high and light, the light here is bound and as it's properties normally mean free, it does it in a strange way, creating objectivity but also alot of illusory phenomenon. Science is just beginning to see how illusory seemingly dense and set in place phenomena is, with it's dipping into the root of atoms, the quantom level, where energy solidifies as atoms or stays as energy (wavelengths).

The empirical scientist looks into the heavens with his telescope and sees vast space, with stars clustered together and whirling around with super heated gas, to make up galaxies. Then between the space of the galaxies is even more galaxies, infact the number of galaxies is mind blowing. He sums all these up into what he calls a universe, which began at the center of the universe and expanded and continues to expand from the original force first emmited by the formation of the universe. Everything nearly is objective in empirical science, and so the universe begins as a point and expands as a sphere.

This sounds all fine and dandy till you look past objective understanding. In objectivification, every phenomenon is a thing, with a barrier around it and some mass making up it's center. What about non-objectivism? Take away all or some of the barrier and what do you get? Force, non-seperated, in part or in whole. The physical universe isn't unified by anthing, and even the unification of the space itself, is ignored. Things are just seperate, but can combine or split.

One thing illogical about a universe is what bridges it together if space seperates it apart, and if this is heat or light, as scientists would have you believe, then why is the majority of the universe black, and with the exception of stars and nebulaic gas, seperated by vast gulfs of space, yet is described as expanding? Also expanding into what? A universe so full of space and devoid of sustainence, would be shrinking, and quite rapidly. But this is what you piece together of the distant steller phenomena when you gaze at it through the night, as it's explained during the day the closest stars light makes the "heavens," unable to be studied.

It's true that the light or force (existence force), in the Earth element is lesser and so bound, but also it is exposed to division and maniness, as the dark splits where as the light makes whole. So one would expect planets, asteroids, and suns, to be this fractured force, within the void of space. But for this to be so, space can't be just one solid sheet, as the pure void is tiny, near zero, and so this must be varying levels of space. Science is just now starting to open it's mind to this, with it's dark matter of the universe.

The missing wholeness and sum or roof of the cosmos, science can't find as it is another dimension of existence. We liken it to light because with special eyes it can be seen and commonly is as such. In D&D there are varying planes, each based off the absolute poles of unity and light and division and darkness (absolute zero), as they exist between them. The prime material universe is just one plane which exists in the middle of these cosmic absolutes. Which isn't suprising as the majority of paradigms of earth peoples say that earth is somewhere in the middle between the heavens and the underworld.

Any way if one learns to astral project, one will see that there are infact many universes, some quite strange in composition and behaivior, and infact the entire cosmos is a multiverse. The universes are either less formed and mutable and more towards the positive pole or more limited and formed and more towards the negative pole. Astral projection can be learned while meditating, or while lucid dreaming. Lucid dreaming tends to be the full leave the physical body behind and experience the planes must visually and fully, but meditation can be honed for the same thing, it just takes practice and the lowering of brainwaves.

Speculating the Supermoon: Scale, Distance, and Brightness

  • Posted on March 16, 2011 at 7:55 am
I was going to post this in the supermoon discussion, but I felt it was a bit off track and I didn’t want to seem like I was trying to squash people who actually want to do something about the supermoon.

So my issue with the supermoon is not so much what I should do, but if I think the supermoon means anything. So what is the supermoon? Largely hype. Nolle who coined the term describes it as “a new or full moon which occurs with the Moon at or near (within 90% of) its closest approach to Earth in a given orbit” (you can see his full article about it here ). Warning though, since it is his site, and he coined the term, please realize he is not an objective resource and has a vested interest in proving how amazing supermoons are. The current buzz about our approaching supermoon is that the Moon will be the closest it has been in 18 years. Sadly I can’t find anything confirming this part of it, but in general the Moon swings from 363104km away from the Earth at the closest and 405696km at the farthest. It goes from the extremes over the course of the month so the moon being near or far is nothing special, unless you’re Grover or Celine Dion.

So at the full Moon our beautiful silver disk will be close to the earth, but does that mean anything? The trouble with this question is two-fold. First from a magickal-physical perspective the question is about distance, scale, and the inverse square. Really simplified, the inverse square law basically saying “a specified physical quantity or strength is inversely proportional to the square of the distance from the source of that physical quantity.” (Wiki definition) Or layman’s term, the farther something gets away the less influence it has. So according to that logic the Moon being close may mean something...but if we accept that logic other than the Sun essentially nothing in the solar system is close and/or big enough to influence us magickally. If we ignore it, then why does the supermoon matter? I know magick doesn’t always follow the inverse square law, but I find it does surprisingly often.

The second problem relates to scale and our ability to understand it. People keep saying about the Moon being closer, but how close is it? Well in a bizarre lucky chance we can illustrate this with a basketball and a tennis ball. The ratio of the Earth to the Moon is 3.7, while the ratio of a basketball and tennis ball is 3.6, that’s a really close match. So take a basketball and a tennis ball, Earth and Moon, how close would the tennis ball orbit the basket ball? 7.37 metres or for those living in countries stuck in the 19th century that’s 24 feet roughly. That’s at the average orbit. When the Moon is at its farthest it would be it would be 7.77 metres away, that’s only 40 cm more, or 15 inches more. Even when scaled down this isn’t that much. At the closest at this scale it would be 7 metres only 37cm less than average, or just over a foot less.

So if the “power” of the supermoon is in anyway dependant on its scale that difference of scale all things considered isn’t that much. Month after month the Moon swings near and far, and really when you look at it to scale that’s not that big of a difference. The supermoon is made special is that the Moon is slightly closer on the day it happens to be the brightest.

I don’t know if I’m getting “trapped” in too physical of a mindset, but the more I think about it, the more I feel the supermoon doesn’t mean anything, or even if it does the difference is so minor as to be essentially negligible.

What do others think? Am I being too physical about it? Am I missing something? Onto something? If you think the supermoon does matter what is your reasoning?

Help with interpretation ?

  • Posted on January 15, 2011 at 7:55 am
Ok... this is a tough one... I'm not even sure how to phrase the question. Ack.

If someone were to have the following astrological configurations, what might be said about their possible attributes and/or personality traits ?

Here's what is known:

Sun in Taurus
Moon in Scorpio
Rising Sign Sagittarius
Midheaven Libra
Mars in Leo
Mercury conj. Sun in Taurus

The above, is all of the information that I have, and since astrology is esentially greek to me, any pointers about said "personality" would be of tremendous help :-)

Many thanks to anyone that can shed some light on this for me !!

French village faces influx of apocalypse believers

  • Posted on December 22, 2010 at 6:01 am
I normally just smile and laugh at articles like this, however the Sydney Sunday Morning Herald article linked within it mentions that both President Francois Mitterrand and the Israeli Mossad have been seen poking around this mountain over the years. Anyone familiar with the history there and why it is deemed so esoterically important? I had never heard of this place.

French village faces influx of apocalypse believers

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-12058674

The mayor of Bugarach, Jean-Pierre Delord, poses in Bugarach, December 2010 Mr Delord says US websites are selling tickets for trips to Bugarach

A French mayor has expressed concern over an influx of New Age believers to his village who are convinced they will escape the end of the world in 2012.

Jean-Pierre Delord, mayor of Bugarach, says rumours are circulating that the village offers shelter from an impending Armageddon.

Bugarach is a small village of about 200 people in south-west France.

The mayor says that in recent years the village has attracted visitors looking for alien activity.

Now it is seeing visitors who predict that the end of civilisation is due to occur in two years' time, he says.

They believe the world will end on 21 December 2012, the end of a 5,125-year-long cycle in the ancient Maya calendar.
'Esoteric visitors'

Mr Delord says he has raised the issue with regional authorities.

"I'm worried because the population of our village is only 200 people and... we risk having a flood from all the corners of the earth," he told RTL radio.

"There are already some websites in the US with some people selling tickets for trips to Bugarach. They are doing some business, and people are already organising visits and prayer and meditation workshops, etc," he added.

"A few hundred coming every year isn't a problem, is it? But we mustn't have thousands coming altogether."

Many of the visitors believe that a group of aliens is hiding in a cavern in Bugarach's 1,231m mountain who will leave when the world ends and take them with them, according to the Sydney Morning Herald.

Sigrid Benard, who runs the Maison de la Nature guesthouse, said she was seeing a rise in those who held the belief.

"At first, my clientele was 72% ramblers. Today, I have 68% 'esoteric visitors'," she told AFP news agency.

The myth of a 2012 doomsday originates in claims that Nibiru, a supposed planet discovered by the Sumerians, is headed toward Earth, according to the US space agency Nasa. That theory then became linked to dates in the Mayan calendar.

However, Nasa states on its website: "Nothing bad will happen to the Earth in 2012. Our planet has been getting along just fine for more than four billion years, and credible scientists worldwide know of no threat associated with 2012."

OTTAWA — This year's winter solstice — an event that will occur next Tuesday — will coincide with a full lunar eclipse in a union that hasn't been seen in 456 years.

The celestial eccentricity holds special significance for spiritualities that tap into the energy of the winter solstice, the shortest day of the year and a time that is associated with the rebirth of the sun.

"It's a ritual of transformation from darkness into light," says Nicole Cooper, a high priestess at Toronto's Wiccan Church of Canada. "It's the idea that when things seem really bleak, (it) is often our biggest opportunity for personal transformation.

"The idea that the sun and the moon are almost at their darkest at this point in time really only further goes to hammer that home."

Cooper said Wiccans also see great significance in the unique coupling of the masculine energy of the sun and the feminine energy of the moon — transformative energies that she plans to incorporate into the church's winter-solstice rituals.

Since the last time an eclipse and the winter solstice happened simultaneously was just under five centuries years ago, Cooper said she wasn't familiar with any superstitions or mythologies associated with it.

Instead, she said, they can only be interpreted personally.

"Wiccans don't think of things as being good or evil — they just are. Our experience of them makes them positive or negative for us."

The winter solstice also played an important role in Greco-Roman rituals.

"It's seen as a time of rebirth or renewal because, astrologically, it's a time where the light comes back," said Shane Hawkins, a professor of Greek and Roman studies at Carleton University in Ottawa.

For the ancient Romans, it was also a time of great feasting and debauchery.

"If (the eclipse) happened on the 21st, they might well have been drunk," he said.

A lunar eclipse taking place during the solstice is not an event Hawkins has seen in research, but he said it would have been viewed as something special.

"Eclipses could be taken either way," he said. "Certainly it would have been an omen, but it would have been up to the interpretation of specialists of whether it was good or bad."

And that interpretation would likely be based on whatever was happening at the time.

The last time the two celestial events happened at the same time was in AD 1554, according to NASA.

An otherwise seemingly unexceptionable year in recorded history, the darkened moon happened during a bleak year for Tudor England.

Lady Jane Grey was beheaded for treason that year, while Princess Elizabeth was imprisoned in the Tower of London. Mary of Guise — the mother of Mary, Queen of Scots — became regent of Scotland.

Scientifically, however, it's just a coincidence of natural cycles.

"It's quite rare, but there's no profound significance. It's luck of the draw; you got dealt four aces," said Robert Dick, an astronomy instructor at Carleton.

The eclipse will start just after midnight Eastern Time on Tuesday, with the main event starting at 1:30 a.m. ET and lasting until 5:30 a.m., when the moon reappears.

Pointing at the Moon (question)

  • Posted on November 21, 2010 at 11:01 pm
Ok. I've googled till I'm blind, and still nothing turns up....grrrrr.

Anyway, what I've got is a very clear memory of having read somewhere - probably a long lost book on "Moon Lore" (or something of that nature), the belief that if someone were to physically point at the Moon seven times or more within one lifetime, that they would be "damned to hell". Just during the last five days I've done worse...lol. Damn, I was damned to hell by the time I was four years old... Ahem. Back to the point.
I recall that at the time I read it, there was no explanation, "history of..", or any context whatsoever to the entire concept. Is anyone here familiar with this superstition, or perhaps able to shed some light on where this idea might have come from ? My curiosity is killing me,,,

Thanks !

Oh, if this isn't a good place for this question, hie it on over to wherever is more appropriate please. I had a heck of a time deciding to put it here...lol..

[Article] solar activity prompts international space weather initiative

Nov. 8, 2010: Prompted by a recent increase in solar activity, more than a hundred researchers and government officials are converging on Helwan, Egypt, to discuss a matter of global importance: storms from the sun. The “First Workshop of the International Space Weather Initiative (ISWI)” meets Nov. 6th through 10th and is convened by the United Nations, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA).

"Strong solar storms can knock out power, disable satellites, and scramble GPS," says meeting organizer and ISWI executive director Joe Davila of NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center. "This meeting will help us prepare for the next big event."

the bastille day event

  • Posted on October 27, 2010 at 11:49 am
been watching things develop as far as sunspots and whatnot, and been somwhat inspired by the recent activity around sunspot 1117, to post this thread about something that happened in 2000, during the last solar maximum. these things go at about 11-year cycles, so were about due again.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bastille_Day_event

Quote:

On July 13, 2000, NASA and NOAA tracked one intense solar storm they nicknamed the "Bastille Day event." Scientists on Earth used data received from the orbiting Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO) and NOAA's Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellites (GOES) to anticipate the bright solar flare and its ensuing energetic proton shower. SOHO is a joint project of the European Space Agency and NASA.

The flare coincided with a coronal mass ejection from the Sun which sent billions of tons of plasma into space traveling at 4 million miles per hour. That is twice the normal speed. A coronal mass ejection is an eruption of the electrified gas known as plasma from the Sun.

ACE Blinded. NOAA forecasters usually rely on data from the Advanced Composition Explorer (ACE) spacecraft to provide one hour notice before the start of a geomagnetic storm on Earth. Unfortunately, the July 2000 solar shower blinded ACE's most important detectors. Without that reliable data, forecasters had to wait until Earth's magnetic field became distorted before they knew for sure that the disturbance had arrived from the Sun.

A G5 geomagnetic storm raged for nearly nine hours after the solar shower's impact. G5 is the most intense level.

The effects of the Bastille Day storm were widespread. Cameras and star-tracking navigation devices on several satellites were flooded with solar particles. Measurements from particle detectors and other instruments on several NOAA and NASA spacecraft were either degraded or temporarily shut down. The Japanese Advanced Satellite for Cosmology and Astrophysics (ASCA) was sent tumbling in orbit.

On the ground, aurora light shows were seen as far south as El Paso, Texas. Power companies suffered geomagnetically induced currents that tripped capacitors and damaged at least one transformer.

Magick And Moons Void Of Course

  • Posted on October 25, 2010 at 10:03 am
Hi people,
I'm new here. My name is Natan and I'm from Yugoslavia. I recently found this Forum, found it very interesting and I decide to register.
English is not my first language so I apologize if I have some errors in my writings.
I'm a follower of a Franz Bardons system of Hermetical/Magical training but I'm also interested in other occult approaches.
My question here is to the ones here that are familiar with Astrology. I know that it is not recommended to start anything new when the Moon is Void of Course. So, my question is do you found this to be true for magical operations also or for mundane actions only? For example, I want to work on changing some my character traits and I want to start today, but I saw that today is a Void of Course so I don't know if its ok to start or to wait till tomorrow?!
Is here someone experienced in this kind of approach?

Thank you!

Natan,

Aurora consurgens

  • Posted on October 18, 2010 at 11:55 am
I'm dying for a copy of this manuscript. If you've got it on the web, please let me know.

It's very fascinating, here are some of its best photos.

His legs, one a knight's and the other a scarecrow's, show his trickster/magus nature altogether with his monkey face. The owl playing a trumpet is probably The Judgement / The Aeon. He mocks at Death ( and the Devil ) because The Tower has already fallen down. In this regard, his foot over the skull reminds us of vajrayogini. Cancer ( the crab ) and Pisces ( the fish ) are present, that is, The Chariot and The Star are respectively present ( ref. Crowley's 777 ).

The purple snake is probably part of the trickster archetype: the master of illusion, hexagram 04, playing an impossible violin ( ref. Krakowski ) ; but it may also be sushumna or a recognition of the role of the trickster on the creation of genetic memories and morphogenetic fields ( 6th / 7th circuit cognitive activity, ref. Leary ), like in old babylonian double helix / interwined snakes symbolism. However, the snake is without a doubt the spiritus mercurii, a serpent, salamander, a Melusina ( ref. Jung, Psychology and Alchemy ). Of course, and now I'm just wondering, this may be the Roasting Salamander from the Book of Lambsprinck, the Mithraic Mysteries.

I couldn't make sense out of this one. It's very erotic, it's The Lovers, but I don't know what the rabbit and the bat means, neither what means that purple thing on the ground and the big bird. If you liked the Mysteries thing, this may be Khunrath's “bird of Hermes” and “blessed greenness.” ( ref. "Amphitheater of Eternal Wisdom" : “ascending smoke, sacrificial speech acceptable to God.” ).

The Lion is advance/love ( sanguine humour ), The High Priestess, hexagram 2 (000000), and the Bull is advance/hate ( Choleric humour ), The Devil, hexagram 1 (111111). This is the classical 2nd circuit conflict between dominant personalities ( ref. Leary ). The man = sun = historical process = The Sun and woman = periods = moon = The Moon symbolism is also present ( ref. Shlain, "The Big O Lecture" ). This woman may be Eros, Joyce's Issy ( Isabelle Plurabelle, ALP's daughter ), the man is a quixotic figure, he's all historical men. You can notice the coincidentia oppositorum because the lunar woman is holding the sun's shield, and the sunny man is holding the moon's shield, and the bull is becoming a lion, and the man (1) is sitted on the lion (000000) and the woman (0) is sitted on the bull (111111). So this picture is partly a parody of human history and partly a taijitu.

This is Strength / Lust , of course.

There are many pictures like this one on the aurora consurgens. After all, this is an alchemical manuscript, so you get a lot of nigredo/rubedo/albedo representations. I see the ouroboros and the vulture of death and rebirth again.

And of course, here's the classical aurora consurgens picture: the sacred heart of Jesus and the Cups / Aries / submission-love ( ref. Leary ).

Aspects in Spells

  • Posted on October 5, 2010 at 9:44 pm
I'll just copy the bit of my blog here.

HERE BEGINETH THE SNIPPET
I recently have come across a rather interesting way of misdirecting a spell. So I thought that I would point it out on here.

The other day I was happily Summoning the Moon. It was in Trine with Pluto which is the planet that rules over my sign. (yes I have converted to modern thinking, but it took me a good while.)
The Moon was in the 6th House in Trine with the MC also. In Bisextile with the MC, Pluto and with the Moon was Vesta. I was expecting to be visited as usual as the Moon ascended the next morning, but instead I was visited as Vesta ascended.

It seems that the Bisextile focal point stole which planet I had contacted. I intend on experimenting more with this and seeing if I can't learn from it and make a good old powerful spell. I do use the Grand Trine occassionally in Magic, but the Bisextile is not something I have dabbled with other than in interpretation, to put it to a practical use may be interesting.

END SNIPET

Any thoughts?

vegas hotel solar death ray

  • Posted on October 3, 2010 at 2:34 pm
ive never been a fan of glass buildings because of the numerous angled rays of retina-burning pain that get reflected from the surfaces, but this extreme takes the cake.

:/

Quote:

At one Las Vegas pool, you might want to consider full- body armor to protect you from the sun's powerful rays.

Guests at the new Vdara hotel have been complaining that because of an architectural flaw on the glass skyscraper, the sun's rays are being magnified and reflected onto a single area of the pool, causing severe burns.

There have been reports that even plastic has melted from the heat.

...

A reporter from the Las Vegas Review-Journal made two trips to the pool and saw the 10-foot by 15-foot hot zone. As the Earth rotates, the hot spot shifts across the pool area. During the summer, it was noticeable for about 90 minutes before and after noon.
