Unknown Rune set

  • Posted on November 24, 2010 at 1:06 am
I have been wanting to know Runes, and Norse ways, for sometime, and in many ways the Asgard have smiled upon me as of late including that, recently a friend gave me a set of Runes for helping him move:cool:.

So the time has come, the runes have came to me. Only thing is that they do not seem to be from one of the major Futhark, and I cannot seem to find a webpage that will help me identify them:confused:. Anyone know any really comprehensive Rune webpages? Pages that have less common rune sets.

After I get the basics down and get a feel for my runes, I wish to have a more dynamic knowledge of the runes, how they work together, and relate to eachother, and to Norse religion and culture, and how the runes correspond to Tarot, and astrology, alchemy, and such. So any good resources on that would be awesome.

I will be reading some sagas too, and my book on vikings, I look forward to discovering parts of my heritage. Been focused on Golden Dawn for awhile and I am branching out a little more now.

Nordic Ganesha

What would be the equivalent to Ganesha in the Nordic pantheon, it is also of highest priority for the deity to be of the Asgard house or a close ally of the Asgard, definitely not a foe.
Forgive my ignorance. I know little of Norse religion.
I will soon be learning runes, and Nordic ways.
I was recently given a set of Runes, and have been wanting to know them for some time. The Asgard have smiled upon me as of late, and offered me some rewarding challenges, to rise or shrink before. No freebies:cool:.

No love for the northern ways?

Why is this thread so empty? Is this path not "cool" now a days? I have always been incredibly interested in the teachings of the Norse so I'm a little confused by the apparent lack of interest of others.

Also, does anyone know where this quote comes from? I was under the impression it was from the Havamal but I couldn't find it in there when I went looking.

"Wake early if you want another man's life or land. No lamb for the lazy wolf. No battle's won in bed"

Norse Banishing/Space Cleansing

  • Posted on September 20, 2010 at 11:42 am
Here's a ritual that I've been using for quite some time to clear a space of negative spirits and entities, as well as ward my home. Take from what you will, and feel free to comment. :)

Please keep in mind, that this is done from the perspective of a heathen practitioner and assumes that your altar is in the North, so feel free to alter it as you like.

/start

*Face North with your hammer up above your head* Hammar in Norðri, helga vé thétta, ok hindra alla illska! *Make the sign of the hammer*

*Face East with your hammer up above your head* Hammar in Austri, helga vé thétta, ok hindra alla illska! *Make the sign of the hammer*

*Face South with your hammer up above your head* Hammar in Suðri, helga vé thétta, ok hindra alla illska! *Make the sign of the hammer*

*Face West with your hammer up above your head* Hammar in Vestri, helga vé thétta, ok hindra alla illska! *Make the sign of the hammer*

*Return to the center of the space and face the altar* Aesir eða Vanir, helga vé thétta, ok hindra alla illska! *Make the sign of the hammer above your head, and then do the same pointing at the ground*

/end

The phrase used is Old Norse, and essentially means "By the hammer, [Dwarf Name], Hallow and hold this stead." The visualizations used should be whatever you feel comfortable with. I have taken to following the Norse layout of each of the elements, and assign the directions as follows:

North: Earth
East: Fire
South: Air
West: Water

First runic experiments (brace for wall of text)

  • Posted on July 23, 2010 at 10:17 am
I Stumbled across this site yesterday, and after reading quite a bit on sigil work in the chaos magic section, I decided to re-open my notes on runes that I'd been ignoring all week and give something the old college try. Surprisingly, small scrap pages that I'd forgotten all about slid onto the floor. They were rough inscriptions of bindrunes that I'd made the previous week. A little backstory is necessary for the significance to make any sense (and hey, I might as well introduce myself a bit).

Due to a soul-shattering life change about a month ago, I began a journey of further religious discovery. I had long considered myself a heathen, but realized that I had very little idea of what that actually meant. So naturally I turned to the internet, it being an obvious choice for a source of trustworthy information.

Everything that I had been ignoring, everything that I was missing out on became quite apparent to me with only a few hours of research. I had not even thought about actually practicing any part of Asatru, just in saying
that I was a member (I blame my Catholic upbringing). I knew the history and the teachings already, I just wasn't sure how to celebrate it in a manner to enrich my life. Once I had the basic ideas for how to do this, I continued my research by delving deeper into the mystical aspect. I'd known that runes existed and were potentially powerful objects, I just assumed they'd always out of my reach. After some practice and a binder's worth of notes though, I found that they're actually quite accessible (or maybe i just have a gift for languages). The runes completely fascinated me, and I began to think of ways to combine them to change the world around me.

I decided that I should begin with a few "tried and true" bindrunes to get my feet wet first though:

Unlike what I've read on this site about sigil work, the power in these bindrunes seemed to be inherent from the moment of inscription rather than during "firing" or "charging". In fact, I could feel the power within each individual part of these bindrunes as I was tracing them into my notes and pronouncing their names. I was in the process of planning a charging ritual for each when the expected results of the bindrunes becan to manifest. I'm still unsure why this is; whether it's the nature of these particular runes in this particular order that is inherently powerful (thus the "tried and true" status), because of my heightened perception of wyrd (or gnosis, etc.) due to my emotional state at the time of inscription, because my particular inscription process was (even into my notes) heavy on ritual, or for something else entirely.

For whatever the reason though, each seemed to be quite successful within a week of my initial rough inscription. I got a job last sunday through a friend that I hadn't heard from in a long time randomly giving me a shout, I've grown drastically in my awareness of myself and the world around me, and I've gained more control over my emotions and inner demons.

Anyway, just thought I'd share my experiences so far. I'll continue to post more as my journey continues.
