Vogue.com has release the Chanel Couture Fall Collection 2011! I love Chanel and this just makes me love it even more :) I especially love the little lace masks the models are wearing and also the detail in the jackets. I wish I could afford to buy them….but until then, I’ll just stick to admiring them :)

Journaling with Purpose

  • Posted on September 30, 2011 at 9:13 am
A discussion started in another thread, where I mentioned some of the cognitive biases that might lead to false impressions about what magick is and how it works. Specifically I named base rate neglect and conformation bias, but I think the magician does well to be aware of the whole topic area, and the general idea that a strong motivation to maintain a given belief has a lot of power over how phenomena are perceived and interpreted.

And while these issues as I've discussed them are indeed a part of modern cognitive science literature, in occult literature and specifically in the context of magick development, the potential for self-deception and admonishments to avoid it predates the science. Self-deception isn't the only so-called pitfall of magick and mystical practice. For example, any technique that includes markedly altered states of awareness, because of how remarkable the sensory experience can be, can develop into something of an addiction, wherein the value of the experience is lost in favor of the sensory features, pursued for their own sake. The aspiring magician does well to be aware of all such issues, and to learn or develop strategies against them.

I raised the idea of good journaling practices as a means of addressing the self-deception issue, and further suggested that over years of magick practice:

And here's a response that was offered:

I have not found that the journal causes me to doubt or dispute the validity of a variety of spells and magical rites.

I don't doubt your word at all, IA. But neither do assume that any old journaling method is sufficient to counteract the effects of a strong motivation to confirm ones expectations/beliefs/hopes, and I even think it's possible that poor journaling (from my point of view) might be counterproductive in terms of self-deception.

Please understand that I have no way of knowing if you're deceiving yourself or not. Maybe you are and maybe you aren't, and that's your affair, not mine. I'm discussing a general principle here that I've given a great deal of thought to in the past, which just happened to be suggested by our discussions in the Where's the Science thread.

With that in mind, I have in fact developed a journaling method with the cognitive science of self-deception in mind, which is one example of how science can and should be informative of good magick practice. You and the rest of the readership is invited to review the method, and comment or criticize, use it, or whatever you like. I've recently revised it, by the way, so if you read the document previously, it's worth going over the revision. It's written in the same spirit, but is somewhat more specific and, I hope, better:

To Necromancers: A question of territorial graveyard spirits…

  • Posted on September 29, 2011 at 6:56 pm
So, I was at the graveyard a year ago had occurred a possession of a friend's girlfriend, and I was accused because they knew I practiced black arts.
This has taught me to be wary of the dark as well as the light. Enemies must not be made.

I felt a very oppressive force by the church which is where some recent dead from a few that same year are buried.
This possessive shade was combatted and banished, but it still knew me I think, and what I contributed to it.

It didn't seem overly aggressive. Just a PMS styled "please stay away from me." cry.
It wanted space and time alone, possibly.

The gravestone I stopped in front of was a boy's from 2008, and his spirit seemed to be afraid to connect to me,
so let off a sort of cry.
He was a boy and didn't know me though, so its understandable.
There was a burning candle in a lamp at this stone. I may have exposed myself to deathlike forces but this is how one does it- by touching it, not diving into it.
I was in the graveyard for a short while before I decided to leave from the level of strangeness I felt there.

I'll continue to document my necromantic experiences.
Lets hope this doesn't hurt my health too much.

Oh, and my question: What is a wise left hand path approach to this knowledge? Keep gathering knowledge there?

The lost Book of Alchemy Released

  • Posted on September 29, 2011 at 9:01 am
I have always been interested in the lost knowledge of ancient times. I read various books on the topics that no longer people talk about. I have been a regular user of forgottenbooks.org and they have released some great books which had been lost in print. Last week i visited the website again and i saw that they have released a new book on Alchemy which had been lost in prints. The book of Aquarius is the name of the book and its about the knowledge and power of alchemy. I had always been interested in alchemists and so i downloaded the ebook which was free. I read the book and i became a fan instantly. The author seems to know a lot about Alchemy and power of nature. I am so impressed by the author and his writing and read some pages over and over again. I would like to quote a few lines from the book here..
Quote:

The purpose of this book is to release one particular secret, which has been kept hidden for the last 12,000 years. The Philosophers' Stone, Elixir of Life, Fountain of Youth, Ambrosia, Soma, Amrita, Nectar of Immortality. These are different names for the same thing.

Throughout history this secret has been used by a very few to extend their lives hundreds of years in perfect health, with access to unlimited wealth, among many other miraculous properties. Some kept the secret because they understood that the time was not right for the secret to be free for all people, but most kept the secret out of their own jealousy, ignorance, egotism and corruption.

The Stone's history and the history of the human race up until this day is a strange story full of secret societies, hooded cloaks, and mystical symbols. Such theatrics are childish and shallow. It's pointless to look for the light in the shadows.

The Philosophers' Stone operates and is made by entirely natural and scientific means. Truth is always simple, beautiful and easy to understand.

The Philosophers' Stone is real; you can make it at home. The Stone makes old people young, heals all forms of sickness and disease, extends your life, turns any metal into gold, and more, as you will learn. This isn't a myth or a metaphor, it's a fact.

Don't judge this book before you've read it. This is not one of those airy fairy books written in all kinds of mystical language, filling pages with words that makes sentences but not sense. This book will make more sense than anything you've ever read before.

The age of secrets is over. I'm writing this book in common English. There's no need for mystical language or metaphor. This book contains no hidden meaning or codes; everything is stated plainly and directly, in the shortest and simplest of words necessary to convey the meaning.
I know not many people will believe this. But i would like it if people just take a look at the book. I am working to make my own philosopher’s stone and i would like to have some fellow members of the forum to be interested in the idea. The Pdf and the audiobook version of the book is free and can be downloaded from the website
http://www.bookofaquarius.forgottenbooks.org

Please read the book at least once and let me know what you think about it. I would like to discuss this topic with other people. Cheers.

Group Project Skype or MSN rituals

  • Posted on September 29, 2011 at 8:06 am
Greetings!

Gathering of magickal practitioners are unfortunately rare in our day and age, at least it is where I live. That is why I really enjoy websites like this one. It brings people from all over the world together in order to discuss and talk about their views on the arts and help each other grow. I have performed spells and rituals with people from all over the globe that I have met on forums such as this one through MSN and Skype these last few years. Now that I have found a new forum I hope to perform many more with you guys. If anyone is interested in aiding me in a ritual or themselves need help with one then feel free to send me a PM here and we can discuss it. Is there a need for such things among you?
