Pagans Observe Memorial Day

  • Posted on May 30, 2011 at 9:11 am
From Wildhunt

In America,_today is Memorial Day, a federal holiday that recognizes those who have died in the service of our military forces._For decades modern Pagan military personnel_have worked to see that their contributions and sacrifices_were given equal honor and recognition. Today, Pagan involvement in our armed forces_is at level of visibility and acceptance never before imagined, [...]

Hello…

  • Posted on May 30, 2011 at 7:50 am
Hey there, folks. Thought I would introduce myself and hopefully get to know people around here. I guess I'm a fairly old beginner since I'll be 30 shortly, but I had to go though a lot just to get to this point in my life.

Anyway, a pleasure to meet you. I may not talk much after this, but that usually happens when I'm trying to learn something important.

Also, to nytek: thank you for your posts. I've spent hours already just reading some of them and tracking down/reading books and links you've mentioned. I hope you're still around here to answer peoples' questions...

Resources on Ophanim?

  • Posted on May 30, 2011 at 4:39 am
Title pretty much says it all. I'm looking for primary sources on Ophanim, specifically ones pre-19th century. I have the Biblical references, the Enochic ones, I'm just wondering if anyone can direct me to a source on them, or at very least a good secondary source that would give their sources?

"Fixing" Problems in Charts

  • Posted on May 30, 2011 at 4:27 am
I know in jyotish and other Eastern branches of astrology there are methods of fixing issues in your chart. Have a bad Saturn/Mars placement? Say this mantra a few thousand times, offer a puja, that'll help it. Bad Venus transit coming? Go give X to Y, it'll help. That kind of thing.

I was wondering two things. First if anyone with more information on jyotish has a recommendation on a book or resource that describes just such a process. Secondly I was wondering if such a thing existed in any of the Western forms of astrology, and again if anyone would have a book or recommendation of a resource in regard to that. My planetary spirits have given me some things to work with, but I'd also like to see what exists already.

The Pagan Terminology Discussion Continues

  • Posted on May 29, 2011 at 10:41 am
From Wildhunt

I put in my two cents yesterday, and the Patheos Pagan portal continues to gather different perspectives, but I thought I’d highlight some of the voices that have sounded off on the issue of using “Pagan” as a descriptor for our diverse movement since Friday. Let’s start with T. Thorn Coyle, who’s written extensively on [...]

In my experience is that purple is one of the easiest colors for goths to work into their wardrobe and decor. From the lightest shades of lilac and lavender to the deepest royal purples, goths seem to love purple. With that in mind I put together a collection of inspirational images to give you ideas of how to work more purple into your wardrobe.

Call for Author Submissions

  • Posted on May 28, 2011 at 9:57 pm
Call for Author Submissions
Nephilim Press is seeking submissions for a new anthology. Read below for details.

What is Dark Magic?

Great minds have been trying to answer this question for millennia and yet we still have no clear explanation.

Some believe that Dark Magic is a destructive form of the occult arts and that it draws its power from the human soul. Others believe that it is simply a force that can be harnessed by some to influence the environment or surrounding matter. Others believe that it can be used to acquire great power from divine beings such as demons. More believe that objects such as amulets or talismans, or even specific locations can be considered a great source of Dark Magical power. Finally there are those that feel that Dark Magic is itself evil and anyone who dabbles in its power are forfeiting their eternal souls.

The new anthology from Nephilim Press, The Dark Arts, focuses on the types, characteristics and forms of Dark Magic and how they are harnessed by the magician and applied to the great work. Author submissions should focus on themes similar to the following:
What are 5 different types of Dark Magic?

Calling on Demons?

Magic that kills?

How the use of spells aid the magician when
harnessing and manipulatingDark Magic?

The submissions must be more than 3.000 words, with no upper limit.
Submissions will be received until November 2011.

Please use the Submissions Page at www.nephilimpress.com
To submit your article.
